Diane Dye Hansen, MCM: Founder and President

Diane Dye Hansen helps organizations and leaders create more opportunity from a challenge or crisis than would have existed without it. She created Critical Opportunity Theory during her Masters program at the University of Southern California, Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism. She combines this with more than 20 years of experience guiding organizations through business and communication strategy. Her stand-out ideas have helped organizations in publishing (The Press-Enterprise), advertising (RB Marketing Communications), entertainment (FUNimation Entertainment, Divine Spirit Network), amusement (iT’Z Entertainment), gaming (Konami Digital Entertainment), personal development (Live Out Loud, Halle Eavelyn Enterprises), startup tech (Chargerback), state government (State of Nevada – Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public and Behavioral Health), local government (City of Carson City – Carson City Library), and healthcare (Vitality Unlimited, Community Health Alliance). Diane is a passionate vision builder who specializes in utilizing the combined powers of questioning and creativity to create opportunity for organizations.

She has a Master of Communication Management from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from California State University at San Bernardino. She holds a High Performance Masters from the High Performance Institute and is a Certified Neurolingustic Programming Coach (8/2018). Outside of the professional realm, she is on the Board of Directors for Proscenium Players, Inc and has been known to appear in community theater productions. She volunteers for Big Brothers Big Sisters, GirlMade, and Advocates to End Domestic Violence. Her column, What Works, appears weekly at CarsonNow.org. She’s also the host of Drive Time – Your Motivational Drive in the Morning which airs on KNVC 95.1 Carson City Community Radio. Diane is sought out by the media as an expert in change management and communication.

Diane Cancino utilizes her 20 years of experience in communication and public affairs to guide clients through the Critical Opportunity Process to help them identify future goals and effective messaging strategy from critical situations. Diane is a skilled, strategic thinker who understands the interconnectedness of communication. She has served in professional roles with an emphasis on community engagement, writing, planning and event management within environments ranging from education (University of Southern California – Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism), municipal government (The City of Santa Monica) and top-tier news organizations (CNN). This well-rounded and diverse background boosts her ability to innovate dynamic organizational solutions that reach stakeholders in a targeted, outcome-driven, way.

She has a Master of Communication Management from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Media and Foreign Language from the American University. She speaks spanish, french, italian and portuguese. Outside of the professional realm, she is an urban explorer and outdoor enthusiast.

Heather Douglass is an accomplished human resources executive with 20 years of experience in the public sector (United States Department of Defense, United States Air Force) where she has placed over 17,000 military professionals, taught career development workshops, and orchestrated multi-agency career fairs. She utilizes Critical Opportunity Process to identify, source, and recruit hard-to-find candidates for clients of the What Works Recruitment division. Here, she has sourced candidates for grant-funded healthcare organizations (Vitality Unlimited, Community Health Alliance) as well as companies in the tech industry (LiveRez). This background in industries with highly specialized requirements, including advanced levels of education, helps Heather locate culturally aligned and specifically skilled talent to fit clients’ needs.

She holds an Associates degree in pharmacy from the Community College of the Air Force as well as a number of certificates including:  FINCERT (Personal Financial Counselor), DoD Resilience Trainer, DoD Sexual Assault Advocate, Shipley Communications – Four Lenses, SIX SIGMA Greenbelt, Katherine Troutman’s – Ten Steps to a Federal Job training, and Transition to Veterans program. She also volunteers with Hire Heroes USA as a career coach/counselor and federal resume reviewer. As a veteran and military spouse, Heather knows what it takes to re-invent herself and her career. Her positive attitude is infectious and the opportunity to make a difference and change someone’s life daily keeps her motivated.

Steve Pedroza, MCM: Communication Technology Consultant

Steve Pedroza utilizes 12 years of accumulated multi-disciplinary experience in operations, information technology, marketing, and communication management with an emphasis in the quick service restaurant industry (El Pollo Loco) as well as the online and traditional retail industry (LumpyCards). This experience allows him to interface at all levels of an organization during a consulting engagement, which enables internal communication that is relevant and stakeholder-centric. His skills are used within What Works Consultants to help assure the organization is using and recommending the best technology available.  

Steve holds Master in Business Administration from the University of La Verne and a Master in Communication Management from the University of Southern California. He also has a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies from the University of La Verne.
